BENDA TOOL & MODEL WORKS INC.-Improving product quality and compliance in die casting companyViews:3times
![]() Challenge To speed up initial inspection, Works Inc. . Started looking for an alternative to its traditional coordinate measuring machine (CMM) process. “Our castings tend to have complex shapes and lots of curves and contours,”explains Gerald Academia, quality manager at Benda Tool. “We wanted faster feedback and considered adding scanner heads to our CMM, but then decided to look at automated scanners.” OGP Solution After studying many automated 3D scanners, Benda Tool works closely with ShapeGrabber to assess and select the solution that best fits its needs. Benda Tool chose the SHAPEGRABBER AI810 scanner, which is ideal for quickly scanning parts of all sizes and shapes. Today, the company uses scanners in conjunction with the CMM to quickly verify the full geometry of its castings, solve problems, and get better feedback on the manufacturing process. “Using SHAPEGRABBER to scan our parts, we can quickly detect deviations.” As a result, “Some of our tool makers don’t do the first-piece inspection of their molds, so it’s important for us to know if the tool was made correctly,”Academia said. “Using a ShapeGrabber scanner to scan parts, we can find deviations very efficiently and quickly, thanks to the colour images we generate from the 3D scan data. This shortens our feedback loop with tool manufacturers, as in the past we might have found problems late in the production process, “In addition to being able to improve product quality and compliance without slowing down production, benda Tool sees other benefits beyond the shop floor. “Not only did we save time and effort, but we also improved our customer interaction because our customers and potential customers were always impressed by our use of advanced detection technology,”ADDS Academia. “It is now an important selling point in our discussions with our clients.”
